Chapter 12 · 12.4
Recognising and searching for people and things
Your WebOké Nextcloud can recognise faces, animals, objects and landscapes in your photos. This happens on our own server in the EU; your photos don't go to Google, Apple or any other service.
How it works
- After uploading, Nextcloud scans your photos in the background. With a lot of photos, this can take hours to days. New photos are added automatically.
- Faces belonging to the same person are grouped together. You'll find them in Photos under People.
- Recognised things, such as animals, plants, buildings or a beach, become labels (tags). You'll find these under Tags.
Don't see anything under People yet? Then recognition is still in progress, or there aren't yet enough photos of the same person. A face only becomes a person once it appears in several photos.
Giving names
- Go to People and click on a group of faces.
- Give the person a name.
- If there's a photo of someone else in the group, remove it from the group.
Names and groups are only visible to you. If you share an album, the other person won't see the names.
Searching
- In Memories, use the search field in the top right to search for a person, a tag or a location.
- The search field at the top of Nextcloud searches by file name and labels.
Would rather not have recognition?
Recognition is switched on for your entire Nextcloud. If you'd like to turn it off, please contact WebOké via a ticket or the AI assistant in My WebOké.
