Creating an e-mail address

Watch it in a short video

Een e-mailadres aanmaken 0:43

With every hosting package and e-mail package from WebOké, you create your own e-mail addresses, such as info@yourdomain.co.uk or your own name@yourdomain.co.uk. Each address you create this way is its own mailbox: an inbox with its own password, in which the mail for that address is stored. You do this in DirectAdmin under E-mail Accounts.

Step 1: open E-mail Accounts

  1. Sign in to DirectAdmin, preferably via Mijn WebOké (see Signing in via My WebOké).
  2. In the menu, click E-mail Accounts under E-mail Manager.
  3. Do you have several domains in your package? Then first choose the correct domain at the top right (3). The list and the new address always belong to the domain shown there.
The E-mail Accounts page in DirectAdmin with the Create Account button, the E-mail Usage link, the domain selector and the default e-mail account
(1) create a new address, (2) E-mail Usage, (3) the domain selector, (4) the default e-mail account

You'll now see all the mailboxes for this domain, along with how much space each one uses and how many mails have been sent with it today. There's always already one address in the list labelled Default (4). This is the system account for your package; you can ignore it (see The default email account of your package).

Step 2: fill in the details

Click CREATE ACCOUNT (1). You'll see the Create Mail Account screen.

The Create Mail Account screen with the User Name, Password, E-mail Quota and Daily Send Limit fields
(1) the part before the @, (2) the password, (3) the storage, (4) the send limit, (5) have a strong password generated
  • User Name (1): type only the part before the @, for example info. The domain is already added after it. Use lower case letters, numbers, dots, hyphens or an underscore, no spaces.
  • Password (2): the password for this mailbox. You'll use this password to sign in to webmail and in your mail program. Click the button on the left of the field (5) to have DirectAdmin generate a strong password, and the eye icon on the right to see what you've typed.
  • E-mail Quota (MB) (3): how much space this mailbox may use. Leave the Max checkbox ticked, and the mailbox may use the storage space of your package. You can read more about this in Storage per mailbox and what happens when it's full.
  • Daily Send Limit (4): how many mails this mailbox may send per day. Leave Max ticked here too, and the limit of your package applies (see Send limits and the 'message limit reached' message).

Step 3: click CREATE ACCOUNT

Click CREATE ACCOUNT at the bottom. The address works immediately. DirectAdmin shows a window called Account is aangemaakt with the details for your mail program: the user name (the full e-mail address), the password and a server name.

The Account is aangemaakt window with the user name, the password and the mail servers
After creating the account: the details of your new mailbox

Please note: DirectAdmin always shows the server here as mail.yourdomain.co.uk. At WebOké, we recommend using your own domain name in your mail program (for example yourdomain.co.uk), or the server name of your package if your domain doesn't (yet) point to us. You can read which one to choose and why in All settings at a glance: servers, ports and security.

Write down the password or save it in your password manager before closing the window. Lost it? No problem: you can simply set a new one (see Changing the password of an email address).

Frequently asked questions

How many e-mail addresses can I create?
At the top of the page, next to E-mail Accounts, you'll see how many addresses you have and how many your package allows, for example 2 / 999. For most packages, this number is so high you'll never run into it. The space your mail takes up does count towards your package's storage.

Can I create addresses for a second domain in my package?
Yes. Use the domain selector at the top right to choose the other domain and create the address there. Each domain has its own list. You can read how to add a domain to your package in Adding an extra domain.

I'm getting the message "E-mail account bestaat al".
There's already a mailbox with that name on this domain. Check the list under E-mail Accounts; you may have created it before. If you want to know the password for that mailbox, set a new one (see Changing the password of an email address).

My new address isn't receiving any mail.
If you've just ordered your package or domain, it can take a few hours before mail for your domain starts arriving with us. If your mail is hosted elsewhere, for example with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, mail for your domain arrives there and not in this mailbox (see MX records: where does your e-mail arrive? and Email with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, website with WebOké). More possible causes are listed in Ik ontvang geen e-mail meer.

I have an e-mail package (such as Email One). Does it work the same way there?
Yes. You sign in to DirectAdmin in the same way and create your addresses under E-mail Accounts.

Can I also do this in Mijn WebOké?

Yes, via the AI assistant in Mijn WebOké. For example, ask "Create the e-mail address info@yourdomain.co.uk". The assistant will ask which details it needs and create the mailbox for you. You can also click Inloggen in DirectAdmin in the conversation and do it yourself (see Signing in with the help of the AI assistant).
